Praise is a Beautiful Thing

I have so much respect for today’s music makers, song writers and worship leaders.  I am moved by the melodies and lyrics that come from the hearts of those who love Jesus. Those whose talents give glory to God and lift the spirits of all who are blessed to hear their holy offering.

When Elisha sought the Lord he ask for a harpist.  “Now bring me someone who can play the harp.” While the harp was being played, the power of the Lord came upon Elisha. (2 Kings 3:15 NLT)  Another version says, “And when the musician played, the hand of the Lord came upon him.” (ESV)

Worship music can indeed draw us closer to God and there we can receive power.  The hand of God can work through us to do things we could never do on our own. I never want to sit down to pray or write without first getting into alignment with Heaven. The only way for me to do that is by looking at the heart of God through worship.  In doing so, I remind myself just how wonderful He is and how much He loves me.

Psalms 100:4 says, “Enter His gates with thanksgiving; go into His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and praise His name.”

It is by beginning our prayers this way that we connect with God’s heart.  We are not just lobbing Him a random “softball prayer” hoping He will catch it and toss back what we want.  No, it is when we seek His face instead of His hand and that we get the really good stuff—far more than we ask or think.

The desire of God’s heart is for us to know Him.  You can’t get to know someone without spending time with them.  I encourage you to “linger longer” with our wonderful God.  Give Him praise. Name what you are thankful for.  Remind yourself just how awesome our God is.  In turn your faith is enlarged to hope higher, believe bigger and receive more abundantly.

He is the God of more.  The Bible says that “no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1Corinthians 2:9 NLT) So put on some praise music and take time to “love Him.”  As you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you (James 4:8). On the truth of His Word, I guarantee it!
