The Snake on the Porch

It was a beautiful sunny day at the lake, with a temperature of 75 and a nice breeze blowing. This was a perfect day to get some painting done on the cottage.  My husband took the deck and I the porch railing.

We had The Message radio station blaring in the house so I could hear it out front and my husband could hear it out back.  I was happily be-bopping to the music and painting away.

I left the porch to get more paint and as I came back I stepped on something.  I looked down and it was a snake!!!  I screamed and we both scurried to our own corners.  He was in the corner by the exit and I was trapped at the other end.  Jumping over the wet painted railing did not seem an option.

I screamed again and then again, and again!  Finally, my husband came to see what was up.  The first thing he says is, “Let’s get a picture.”

“Seriously?”

He bravely stood between me and the snake and I ran to get my phone…and a big stick!

After the photo op was complete, we took the stick and the water hose and chased that snake from our property.  When it was all over, all I could think was, “I stepped on a Snake!!”

But as always, my Father had a comforting word for me, and I spoke it out loud as I heard it.

“I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means hurt you!” (Luke 10:19)

As you know, not all “snakes” in this world are reptiles.  Some actually hold positions in government.  As believers, God has given us spiritual authority over such snakes.  So let’s use that authority and stop letting them scare us into a corner.

  1. Good one, Marcy! I loved the reference to our “political snakes!” Yes, we do need to take spiritual control/ authority over them and pray our nation back to its rightful heritage! Thanks for the fun, and enlightening, story!!
